"60 Minutes" does segment on Ambien providing periods of clarity for minimally responsive patients.
Wow. I just watched a segment on "60 Minutes" describing instances where the sleeping aid Ambien has been used to bring minimally responsive patients out of lengthy periods of incoherency. One case involved a firefighter who was blinded as well during a rescue attempt and had been incoherent for more than ten years. Blind and meeting his old firehouse friends, he immediately recognized them by their voices. He also managed to recognize the voices of his sons almost immediately.
Another case focused on by the "60 Minutes" report entailed a young man who incurred his injury through a car wreck in which he was submerged in a lake for an extended period of time, resulting in brain damage. Many years later, while his mother tried to sleep through his rambling, incoherent, and nonsensical attempts at communication, she offered him Ambien. Within minutes clarity crept into his eyes and speech capabilities were evident. That was five years ago.
Keep a look out for the official story as it should soon be available. Ambien! That's remarkable.(Click here to subscribe to my feed!)
